Tiffany Dinner

The Tiffany Dinner will be held Thursday, August 16 in the Capital Room at the Marriott Hotel. Tickets are $125, which includes a $50 donation to the American Philatelic Society. A limited number of tickets will be available at the show on a first come first serve basis

Twelve-year APS member and a best-selling author Lawrence Block will be the Tiffany Dinner speaker on Thursday evening, August 14, during APS StampShow 2008 in Hartford, Conn. Philatelists are most likely to know Block for his engaging tales of introspective, stamp-collecting killer-for-hire John Keller.

A Grand Master of Mystery Writers of America, Block is a past president of both MWA and the Private Eye Writers of America. He has won the Edgar and Shamus awards four times each and the Japanese Maltese Falcon award twice, as well as the Nero Wolfe and Philip Marlowe awards, a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Private Eye Writers of America, and, most recently, the Cartier Diamond Dagger for Life Achievement from the Crime Writers Association in the United Kingdom. In France, he has been proclaimed a Grand Maître du Roman Noir and has twice been awarded the Société 813 trophy. He has been guest of honor at the World Mystery Convention, and at book fairs and mystery festivals in France, Germany, Australia, Italy, New Zealand and Spain.

Those who like to collect their Blocks in fours will have the chance. His latest of four John Keller books with a philatelic connection, Hit and Run, is due out June 24, and an autograph session with the author during StampShow is being planned. Look for reviews of Hit and Run to come in The American Philatelist and the Philatelic Literature Review
