Stamp "Scavengers"

A philatelic scavenger hunt is a fun way for club members to familiarize themselves with many different stamps and types of stamps. Using the list here, members individually or in groups should attempt to find a representative stamp for each item. For example, the item might be "juggler" and one stamp that could be selected would be the 1980 W.C. Fields issue.

The game can be made easier by allowing a stamp's picture in The Postal Service Guide to U.S. Stamps , a catalog, or another source to be substituted for an actual stamp. Of course more points are given to club members or groups bringing actual stamps.

Extra points also can be given to those participants selecting a stamp for a specific item which no others have picked. Thus, members are encouraged to search for less obvious stamps to represent each item.

The number of items used and the time allowed to find the stamps can be determined by each individual adviser.

The only other specific rule requires that the selected stamp depict the item exactly as it is listed. If the item lists "bird," then a stamp showing one bird only should be selected. A listing of "flags" should be represented by a stamp depicting at least two flags.
